TOPIC: All profiles not showing up in search results

All profiles not showing up in search results 3 years, 7 months ago #3838

Hi,

First thanks a lot for the wonderful component ! Overall a very good and productive component.

I am facing just two issues with Profile Pro:

1. I have created three types of profiles on my site. And on the Community Builder Search User page I have made the 'cb_profiletype' field searchable. But, when I choose the various profiles using the Profile type combo and perform a search then I am not able to see the users with the different profiles. I am only able to see the users associated with ONLY ONE profile. If I edit the user information by changing the profile type to the ONLY ONE visible profile then the user becomes visible in search results.

2. I want two different profiles to have DIFFERENT required fields in Community Builder. Say an Engineer profile has the 'Specialization' field as required but this field should not be required for a normal member. I am not able to achieve this.

Please provide some assistance for the above issues.

Abhinav

1. Excuse me, I wasn't able to completely understand you, what do you mean under Profile type combo? As I know Community Builder lets you select only one filter value in CB list search, i.e. you can search for users with one profile type if you select that field.
2. You can not have the same field required for one profile type and not required for another one. This feature is handled by CB core and can't be changed by CB Profile Pro. But you can have different required fields for different profile types, i.e. you can create two fields with the same title, make one of them required and put them in different profile types.

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I will rephrase Issue # 1

Issue #1

I have 2 types of Profile types say, 'Student', 'Teacher', created through Profile Pro. And, I have created 3 users with 'Student' Profile and 3 with 'teacher' profile. Also, I have made the 'cb_profiletype' field searchable in CB->Field Management so that it appears on the CB User list page. Now, if on the Community builder User List page, if I choose to list all users with 'Teacher' profile then I will choose the Profile type field as 'Teacher' and all users do get listed. But, if I choose the Profile type as 'Student' for listing all Student users then the search result does not shows the 'Student' users. Similarly, if I create more profile types then again same problem occurs. the users associated with ONLY ONE profile type 'teacher' get listed. Other profile type users are not listed.

Issue #2

You said in your solution
"But you can have different required fields for different profile types, i.e. you can create two fields with the same title, make one of them required and put them in different profile types. "

As per your solution it appears that I can associate a particular field with only one profile type. If this is possible then I do understand your solution.
A scenario: I've created "Degree" field and made it required for 'Teacher' profile. So far so good. Now, for 'Student' profile 'Degree' field is not required. But, if a user registers as a 'Student' then he has to fill in the required 'Degree' field. Here, your solution will work only if 'Degree' field is associated only with 'teacher' profile type. And, its not related to 'Student' profile. If your solution means this then please guide me how can I associate fields with a particular profile type.

Thanks,

1. Very strange issue: can I have a look at your site to check it.
2. In your case:
I. if you create a "Degree" field and make it required and then put it into 'Teacher' profile only, then all teachers will have to fill it, while students won't have this field at all.
II. if you create a "Degree" field and make it required and then put it into both 'Teacher' and 'Student' profile, then both teachers and students will have to fill it.
III. if you create 2 fields with the same title "Degree" and make one of them required and then put it into 'Teacher' profile, and the second one not required and then put it into 'Student' profile, then teachers will have to fill field "Degree" while students wont't have to do that.

Thanks for your reply !

Issue #1,
I will communicate the details to you.

For Issue #2

My Bad...I was so much lost in the problem that I forgot to tell you that I am not able to associate fields with Profile types from Admin Backend, CB User Manager section. From the backend I am facing this issue.

In the particular example, I am able to create the Student successfully from frontend. But,if I try to modify a Student user from the backend and then save it then it prompts that the 'Degree' field is not filled. Although the 'Degree' field is not required for Student.
The thing is that for a particular type of profile user registration won't be available from frontend. I will do it manually from the Admin backend. And, there comes this problem.
